I think that this is a great idea to help bridge conversations in moments where they might be dying but can quickly be rekindled or to diffuse a tense moment. Have a back pocket question – When conversations don’t go as planned have a question or two lined up to cover silent moments such as “What do you think about _” It could be related to a current event or something pertaining to work. If you are wanting to build relationships with those around your best bet for starting to make this happen is by interacting more often and having more conversations with the individual you desire to build a relationship with. One of my favorite lines from the book was “The difference between an interaction and a relationship is a matter of frequency”. Social Competence – is your cross between social awareness and relationship management skills.` Social Awareness – ability to accurately pick up on emotions and pick up what is really going on. Self management – Is what happens when you act or do not act Self Awareness – The ability to accurately perceive your emotions in the moment and understand your tendencies across situations. It is a book that aims to help identify the four EQ skills self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. I recently read the book Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Travis Bradberry & Jean Greaves.

One day, Theseus has a premonition of disaster shortly thereafter, an earthquake shakes the city. Theseus serves in the temple of Poseidon, where he lives and works for three years. Discussing the sacrifice, his grandfather tells him that in the old days, the king would have been killed along with the horse to please the gods even in the modern day, the king must be prepared to die for his people. He recounts a disturbing scene he witnessed at age six, the ritualistic slaughter of a beautiful horse. He begins with his childhood, describing the palace of his grandfather, King Pittheus of Troizen. Theseus, now an old man, narrates the events of his life. The King Must Die (1958), a historical novel by Mary Renault, tells the life story of Theseus, a hero of Greek Myth, using plausible historical world-building to create a realistic story that might have served as the basis for the myth that evolved. We already knew the gist of the Gypsy Mummy sequence, so we really didn’t learn anything new. I’m really not sure the purpose of this book, as this tale could have been told anytime, or not at all. On the way to this epic moment, they encounter a dead man with an axe through his skull who wants to introduce Odd to his murderer, at which point Elvis leaves the building. It takes place, of course, prior to the 1st book, and shows Odd and Stormy on their way to the fair (where they meet the fortune telling Gypsy Mummy), and we learn of their hopes and dreams. That being said, I feel it should be read as 6.5 because at the end, it has a blurb about the 7th and final Odd Thomas Book, and there are some people that just can’t resist reading it if it is right there in front of them (shrug).Īs well, there isn’t a whole lot to this short story. You Are Destined to Be Together Forever by Dean Koontz was published as #6.5 in the series, but is actually #0.5 - a precursor to all the Odd Thomas books. You are Destined to Be Together Forever by Dean Koontz With a wit similar to Douglas Adams, Moore pulls no punches: a young Biff has the hots for Joshua's mom, Mary, which doesn't amuse Josh much: "Don't let anyone ever tell you that the Prince of Peace never struck anyone." And the origin of the Easter Bunny is explained as a drunken Jesus gushes his affection for bunnies, declaring, "Henceforth and from now on, I decree that whenever something bad happens to me, there shall be bunnies around." Biff, a capable sinner, tags along and gives Joshua ample opportunities to know the failings and weaknesses of being truly human. Jesus) knows he is unique and quite alone in his calling, but what exactly does his Father want of him? Taking liberties with ancient history, Moore works up an adventure tale as Biff and Joshua seek out the three wise men so that Joshua can better understand what he is supposed to do as Messiah. This clever novel is surely blasphemy to some, but to others it's a coming-of-age story of the highest order. Lucky for us that Christopher Moore presents a funny, lighthearted satire of the life of Christ-from his childhood days up to his crucifixion-in Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. While the Bible may be the word of God, transcribed by divinely inspired men, it does not provide a full (or even partial) account of the life of Jesus Christ. A hungry public waited for her second book, or perhaps a sighting: they never came. At the same time, the contradictions between hype, success and privacy were already clear: as Bret Easton Ellis said, "You can't be Salinger and be represented by ICM."Īnd after that: nothing. She became one of the most mythologised novelists of modern times, weird and reclusive and very much a Writer. Tartt's persona fed this obsession: her name (glamorous), her size (pocket), her answerphone message (TS Eliot reading), her fascinating pronouncements ("My life is like Candide" or "I'm the exact same size as Lolita" ), her chaste aura of another era ("Je ne vais jamais me marier," she once said, winsomely). But it was gripping and clever and fantastically erudite, and people became a little obsessed. It was only a thriller, and you knew who did it from the first page. They remember who recommended it to them, and who they were going out with at the time, and how they held their breath on the bus in to work, finished chapters walking down the street. People remember where they were when they read The Secret History, Tartt's 1992 debut, mega-successful (multimillion sales, 23 languages, a combination of Dostoyevsky, Euripides, Easton Ellis and Waugh, according to the New York Times) novel.
